This surprised me! I was under the impression that the opposite was the case. I was under the impression that the opposite was true. Carpeting your home can help reduce the symptoms of asthma and allergies. Carpeting can actually trap particles in the breathing zone. It can also reduce the circulation of particles in the air. As long as you clean your carpet properly and use a CRI certified hoover, particles will be removed from the air and prevented from being inhaled. Also, look for carpets that are certified under the CRI Green Label Scheme, which indicates that low VOC (volatile organic compound) products are used in homes, schools and businesses. With all the upcoming parties and festivities, there will be more dust and particles circulating around your home. Carpeting will help to minimise any allergens so your guests don't have to worry as much.
How many times have your children woken up to the sound of shoes rubbing against hardwood floors? We like to carpet our home to help reduce the noise. Our daughter is constantly running around the house and carpeting helps keep our house more quiet.
Carpeting your home actually helps to keep it warmer for longer, especially in colder climates. If you think about it, it's also an energy saving benefit. Our Christmas tree is located in our main living space, which is thankfully carpeted. The girls love sitting around the tree looking at the decorations (and trying to guess what toys are wrapped up). Doing this on our carpeted floor makes them feel warmer and more comfortable.
With so many carpets to choose from, we had a difficult time picking the perfect colour. We chose a lighter neutral colour and we are very happy with it. As I mentioned above, I also like to lay area rugs over carpets. This can quickly change the look and style of any room. It would be fun to add an area rug in a festive pop of colour (such as red or green) to your holiday decor. If you are trying to decide on a new rug for your home, take home samples and see what looks best.
Our children play hard and often fall on the floor. For this reason alone, I can't imagine leaving most of our home uncarpeted. This is also super important if you have babies or little ones who are just starting to walk. They fall over a lot. We also have a golden retriever, so the hardwood floors are really hard for him to run around on. He often goes crazy and runs back and forth several times (do your dogs do that too!) . On our carpeted floor upstairs he can let off steam without falling over.
